If you’re looking for a drug and alcohol doctor near Dandenong, Mediclinic in Clayton South provides alcohol and other drug (AOD) care within general practice. We’re a direct train trip from Dandenong station. Some people travel to us from Dandenong and further out because they want ongoing AOD care with a GP or Nurse Practitioner who also looks after their general health.
Drug and alcohol care in general practice
Our team includes GPs with a special interest in addiction medicine and an AOD Nurse Practitioner, Buddika. Our prescribers have been involved in the MATOD (Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence) mentorship program. We offer:
- Opioid pharmacotherapy. Methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone). See Opioid pharmacotherapy.
- Long-acting injectable buprenorphine. An injection given at regular intervals, which can be an alternative to daily dosing for some people. See Long-acting buprenorphine.
- Alcohol use disorder care. Assessment, medication where suitable, and ongoing support. See Alcohol use disorder.
- Withdrawal and rehab planning. Medically supervised withdrawal, planned with your clinician. It may happen at home, as an outpatient or in a residential unit, depending on what’s safe for you. See Withdrawal, detox and rehab.
- Support for families. Information and support for people affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol use. See Support for families.
Every treatment has benefits and risks. Your practitioner will talk through your options and assess what suits you.
New pharmacotherapy patients: Availability for new pharmacotherapy patients changes. Please call reception on (03) 9544 1555 to check current availability before you book.
Whole-person care
Drug and alcohol use rarely happens in isolation. As well as AOD treatment, we offer mental health care, onsite clinical psychology and Patient Support Services. Our Support Workers help regular patients with housing, NDIS and DSP applications, family violence support and advocacy. We aim to be non-judgemental and treat everyone with respect.
