Check what’s required
Ask your employer or agency for their medical form or a list of the checks they need. Find out who is paying for the medical.
Call to book
Call reception on (03) 9544 1555 and tell us it’s an employment medical. Mention which checks are required, such as a drug screen, spirometry or a driver medical. This lets us book the right amount of time.
Attend your appointment
Bring photo ID, the employer’s forms, your glasses or hearing aids if you use them, and a list of your current medications. If you’re new to Mediclinic, arrive 10 minutes early to register.
Paperwork and results
Your practitioner completes the paperwork. Any pathology results are followed up as needed.

What happens during the assessment
A pre-employment medical usually includes questions about your health history and any past injuries. Your practitioner will also do a physical examination. This may include checks of your blood pressure, vision, hearing, movement and fitness for the tasks of the role.
Some medicals also look at mental health and wellbeing, especially for roles with high responsibility or shift work. Depending on the role, you may also need tests such as spirometry or a urine drug screen. Your practitioner’s job is to give an honest, fair assessment. If a health issue comes up, we’ll explain it and talk about next steps, such as treatment, further tests or a referral. For ongoing issues, you can keep seeing us for general medical care or a health assessment.
