Services from our women’s health GP in Clayton

Cervical screening

Cervical screening checks for human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes most cervical cancers. It is generally recommended every five years for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74, even if you have had the HPV vaccine.

You can book with Nurse Practitioner Vara Perikala or one of our GPs. Ask us whether a self-collected sample is an option for you. Your practitioner will explain the test and your results.

Contraception advice

There are many contraception options, including the pill, the contraceptive implant (Implanon) and other methods. We can talk through what suits your health, your plans and your lifestyle. See our contraception page for more about Implanon insertion and removal.

Planning a pregnancy

A visit before you try to conceive is a good chance to check your general health. Pre-conception care may include:

  • reviewing your medicines and any health conditions
  • checking your vaccinations are up to date
  • discussing folic acid and other supplements
  • blood tests where needed
  • lifestyle advice on alcohol, smoking and healthy weight

Routine antenatal care

Nurse Practitioner Vara Perikala offers routine, non-complex antenatal care. This may be shared with your hospital or another maternity care provider. If your pregnancy needs closer care, we will refer you to the right service.

Pregnant women can have the flu vaccine at any stage of pregnancy. See vaccinations.

Other women’s health concerns

You can also see us about:

  • period problems and pelvic pain
  • breast changes and breast awareness
  • menopause symptoms
  • urinary tract infections
