If you are looking for a children’s doctor in Clayton, our GPs and Nurse Practitioner care for babies, children and teenagers. We see children for immunisations, check-ups and everyday illness. As a family-inclusive practice, we welcome parents, grandparents and carers into the conversation.
Many families see the same GP for everyone in the household. This helps your doctor understand your family’s health history and spot changes early.
Childhood immunisations
Immunisation is a safe and effective way to protect your child from serious diseases. Australia’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free vaccines for babies and children at set ages, from birth through to adolescence.
At Mediclinic, childhood vaccines can be given by our GPs and by Nurse Practitioner Vara Perikala, who holds a certificate in immunisation.
Check the schedule
Bring your child’s health record (green book) or check their immunisation history in your Medicare online account through myGov.
Book the visit
Book online or call reception. Tell us it is for immunisations, and let us know if your child is behind on any vaccines.
Vaccination
We check your child is well enough to be vaccinated, explain each vaccine and answer your questions.
Stay for a short while
We ask you to wait at the clinic for about 15 minutes afterwards so we can watch for any reaction.
Vaccines are recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). You may need an immunisation history statement for childcare, kindergarten or school enrolment.
Children aged six months to under five years are eligible for a free flu vaccine each year under the NIP. See our vaccinations page for more.
After vaccination: Mild side effects such as a sore arm, redness or a low fever are common and usually settle within a day or two. If you are worried about your child after a vaccine, call us or seek medical help.

Fees for children
Mediclinic is a mixed-billing practice. Bulk billing may be offered at the practitioner’s discretion for children aged 15 and under. Please check with reception before your visit. Fees may change, so see /fees/ or ask reception.
In an emergency, call 000 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. For urgent care when we are closed, see our after hours options.
Are childhood vaccines free?
Vaccines on the National Immunisation Program schedule are free for eligible children. A consultation fee may apply depending on your practitioner and eligibility for bulk billing. Ask reception when you book.
What if my child has missed some vaccines?
It is usually possible to catch up. Bring your child’s immunisation history and we can work out a catch-up plan with you.
Do you bulk bill children?
Some of our practitioners bulk bill children aged 15 and under, at their discretion. Please check with reception before your appointment.
Can my sick child be seen today?
We see patients by appointment only. Call (03) 9544 1555 and our team will triage urgent requests. If your child is very unwell, has trouble breathing or is unusually drowsy, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.
What should I bring to my child’s appointment?
Bring your Medicare card, your child’s health record (green book) if you have it, and a list of any medicines your child takes.
