Finding an LGBTIQ friendly GP in Melbourne’s south east shouldn’t be hard. At Mediclinic in Clayton South, we want everyone to feel safe, respected and listened to when they walk through our door. That includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex and queer people, people who are questioning, and sex workers.
We’re taking part in Thorne Harbour Health’s “All Are Welcome” pilot project. Thorne Harbour Health is a community-controlled organisation that supports the health of LGBTIQ+ communities in Victoria. The pilot supports general practices to make their care more welcoming and inclusive.
What inclusive care looks like at our LGBTIQ friendly GP clinic
We believe in a holistic approach to your care, looking at your physical, social and mental health together. In practice, that means:
- Respect for who you are. Let us know your name and pronouns, and we’ll use them.
- No assumptions. We won’t assume your sexuality, your gender or who your partners are. We ask questions so we can give you the right care, not to judge.
- Confidentiality. Your health information is private. Our staff do not share details of who visits the clinic.
- Sex worker friendly care. Our sexual health clinic is sex worker friendly and inclusive. You can talk openly about your work and your health needs.
- Continuity. Seeing the same practitioner over time means you don’t have to keep retelling your story.
If something about your visit doesn’t feel right, please tell us. You can speak to our Practice Manager, and your feedback helps us improve.

Our team
Our GPs and Nurse Practitioners provide sexual health care with education and support from the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. Nurse Practitioner Vara Perikala offers sexual health consultations for all genders, as well as HIV PrEP prescriptions. When you book, you’re welcome to ask reception which practitioner may suit your needs.
If you need care we don’t provide here, your practitioner can refer you to an appropriate service. This could be a specialist, a community organisation or a sexual health centre.
Booking and fees
You can book online at /book/ or call (03) 9544 1555. For sexual health, PrEP or PEP, choose a “Sexual Health In Practice” (SHIP) appointment type. For anything else, a standard GP or Nurse Practitioner appointment is fine. We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, by appointment only.
Mediclinic is a mixed-billing practice. Bulk billing is at the practitioner’s discretion for some eligible patients, such as children, people aged 65 and over, and concession card holders. Face-to-face SHIP appointments have a private fee, with a Medicare rebate available. See our fees page for current fees.
