Talking to a psychologist can help you understand what you are going through and build practical skills to cope. If you are looking for a psychologist in Clayton South, Mediclinic has psychology services onsite. That means you can see your GP and your psychologist in the same familiar place.
With your consent, our psychologists and GPs can share information about your care. This helps keep your care joined up, whether you are dealing with stress, low mood, anxiety, trauma, or mental health alongside alcohol and other drug use.
How psychology can help
A psychologist can support you with a wide range of concerns, such as:
- depression and low mood
- anxiety and stress
- trauma and difficult life experiences
- adult ADHD
- grief, loss and relationship difficulties
- coping with alcohol or other drug use alongside mental health
Psychologists use evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and counselling. They can help you understand patterns in your thoughts and behaviour, and give you tools to look after your wellbeing. Everyone’s needs are different, so your psychologist will work with you on goals that matter to you.

How referral works
You can see a psychologist privately without a referral. However, to claim a Medicare rebate, you generally need a referral from your GP and a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Book with your GP
Call (03) 9544 1555 or book online, and ask for a long appointment for a mental health consult with your Mediclinic GP.
Get your Mental Health Treatment Plan
If you are eligible, your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan with you and writes a referral to a psychologist.
Book with the psychologist
Book with Cherie through Mediclinic reception, or with Catlin through Unleashed Psychology. Bring your referral if you were given a copy.
Review with your GP
Your GP will review your plan with you, and can provide further referrals if you need them and are eligible.
Medicare rules for psychology sessions change from time to time. Your GP or reception can explain how many sessions may be rebated and what you might pay. Learn more about how our GPs support your wellbeing on our mental health care page.
Psychology and drug and alcohol care
Many people who use alcohol or other drugs also live with anxiety, depression or trauma. Having psychology onsite means our psychologists, GPs and AOD Nurse Practitioner can work together, with your consent. This joined-up care can make it easier to work on both your mental health and your substance use. Read more about our drug and alcohol support.
Before your first session
- Have your referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, if you are claiming a Medicare rebate.

What is the difference between a clinical psychologist and a psychologist?
Both are registered psychologists. A clinical psychologist has completed additional training and holds an endorsement in clinical psychology. Your GP can help you decide who may suit your needs.
Can a psychologist help with adult ADHD?
Yes. Cherie Lacis has a particular interest in adult ADHD. A psychologist can help you understand your symptoms and build practical strategies for daily life. Your GP will talk with you about any medical assessment or treatment you may need.
Is psychology confidential?
Yes. What you discuss is kept private, with some legal limits, such as when there is a serious risk to someone’s safety. Your psychologist will explain this at your first session.
