Heart disease is a major cause of illness and death in Australia, but many risk factors can be managed. At Mediclinic, you can book a heart health check in Clayton South to understand your risk and make a plan. We also provide ECGs and ongoing care for people living with heart conditions.
Many heart risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, have no symptoms. A check-up is a good way to find out where you stand.

- cholesterol and blood sugar tests

- lifestyle factors like smoking, alcohol, diet and physical activity
- your overall cardiovascular risk

Blood tests
Your practitioner may order cholesterol and blood sugar tests. Pathology collection is onsite. See pathology.
Your assessment
We bring together your results and history to estimate your risk.
Your plan
We talk about practical steps to lower your risk, which may include lifestyle changes, medicines or referrals.
ECGs at Mediclinic
An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the electrical activity of your heart. It is quick and painless. Small sticky pads are placed on your chest, arms and legs, and the recording takes a few minutes.
Your practitioner may suggest an ECG if you have:
- palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
- chest discomfort or shortness of breath
- dizziness or fainting
- a heart condition that needs monitoring
- a pre-procedure or workplace requirement
An ECG gives a snapshot of your heart at that moment. Depending on the result, your practitioner may arrange further tests or a referral to a cardiologist.
In an emergency, call 000 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. For urgent care when we are closed, see our after hours options.
Managing blood pressure and cholesterol
High blood pressure and high cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. We can help you:
- check and monitor your blood pressure
- understand your cholesterol results
- make changes to eating, activity and smoking
- decide whether medicine is right for you, and review it regularly
Our onsite dietitian can support heart-healthy eating.
Living with a heart condition
If you have heart failure or another ongoing heart condition, regular care can help you stay well. Your GP may suggest a chronic disease management plan to coordinate your care, medicines and allied health support.
Fees
Mediclinic is a mixed-billing practice. Bulk billing may be offered at the practitioner’s discretion for some eligible patients. Fees may change, so see /fees/ or ask reception.
